Anger Management

Statement of Purpose: The purpose of the Alternatives to Domestic Aggression Program is to stop domestic violence by providing education, therapy and guidance to batterers, referrals, support and counseling to the victims who have been battered, and information to the courts when needed. We also intend to impact the legal system, the community at large and the batterers themselves to become more involved in stopping domestic violence. We consider domestic violence to be a crime against partners, families and society. Our treatment programs for batterers intend to work closely with domestic violence support services and their representative to ensure the programs do their best to assure the victims safety and to keep our programs in line with our common interest. We welcome suggestions, criticisms, and comments.

Are you a Victim of Domestic Violence?

  • Do you find yourself making excuses or minimizing your partner’s behavior?
  • Do you feel completely controlled by your partner?
  • Has your partner isolated you from friends and family?
  • Does your partner blame you and tell you that you are the cause of all his problems?
  • Do you fear going home?

These are just a few signs that indicate you are in an abusive relationship. Every 13 seconds a woman is battered in this country and that accounts for only the reported cases. Studies show that child abuse occurs in 30-60% of family violence cases that involve families with children. Also, a child’s exposure to the father abusing the mother is the strongest risk factor for transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next.

If you find yourself in this situation and have confronted your partner and he has agreed to get help for his abusive behavior, call us for more information about our Alternatives to Domestic Aggression Program for batterer Intervention services. Our program is one of only two agencies in Macomb County who follow the guidelines set down by the State of Michigan for batterer intervention.

For information on how to access these services call (586) 226-3440.

Youth Violence Prevention Program

THE NEED FOR ANGER MANAGEMENT . . . .
Today’s young people need strong social skills to help them handle conflicts with peers, family members, teachers, employers, and others. Poorly managed anger is frequently a factor in assaults and other crimes that lead young people into the criminal justice system. Even when anger does not result in violence, when expressed in other unconstructive ways it can lead to broken family relationships, school suspension, lost jobs, and other diminished opportunities that put young people at greater risk for criminal activity. Topics include: Conflict Resolution, Self-Esteem, De-Escalating Situations, Peer Pressure, Decision Making, Substance Abuse and Anger, etc.

THE NEED FOR PARENT INVOLVEMENT . . . .
The objective of parent participation is to provide them with support, resources to help their child with anger issues, and enhance communication skills. Parents that participate in the program will benefit from strengthening the family bond, reinforces what children are learning and opens opportunities for family discussion.
